Active Balancer

In the ever-evolving landscape of energy storage technology, the active balancer of batteries has emerged as a game-changer. This sophisticated electronic device plays a pivotal role in optimizing the performance and lifespan of battery packs. In this article, we delve into the world of battery active balancers, uncovering their significance and the transformation they bring to the field of energy storage.

At its core, a battery active balancer is an advanced electronic system engineered to manage and regulate individual cells within a battery pack. Its primary function is to ensure that each cell maintains a balanced charge, preventing overcharging or over-discharging that can lead to reduced capacity and a shortened lifespan. By achieving equilibrium among all cells, active balancers elevate the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the battery pack.

Key Components:

  1. Integrated Circuit (IC):This highly integrated semiconductor chip is the brain behind the active balancer. It monitors and controls the charge levels of individual cells, ensuring they operate within the desired range.

  2. Metal-Oxide-Semiconductor (MOS): Low resistance MOS components facilitate efficient current flow and play a crucial role in maintaining balance among the cells.

  3. Equalization Circuitry: This component is responsible for redistributing charge among cells to achieve a balanced state. It prevents any single cell from being overcharged or over-discharged.

Active Balancer Technology
Battery Balancing System

Even when batteries with excellent consistency are assembled together, there will be varying degrees of differences after a period of charging and discharging cycles, and this difference will gradually worsen with the prolongation of usage time, leading to poorer consistency - the voltage difference between batteries gradually increases, and the effective charging and discharging time becomes shorter.

In even worse cases, batteries with poor consistency may generate severe heat during the charging and discharging process, and even experience thermal runaway faults, ranging from complete battery scrapping to dangerous accidents.

TDT BMS battery balancing technology is a good solution to this problem. The balanced battery pack can maintain good consistency during operation, ensure the effective capacity and discharge time of the battery pack, and maintain a more stable decay state during use, greatly improving the safety factor.

The TDT BMS 5A active balancer module can achieve maximum balancing current and complete balancing at the fastest speed, effectively maintaining battery consistency, improving battery performance, and extending battery life.

It should be noted that the equilibrium current is not continuously greater than or equal to 5A, and usually varies between 0-7. The larger the pressure difference, the greater the equilibrium current; The pressure difference decreases, and the equilibrium current also decreases accordingly. Under ideal conditions, the maximum equilibrium current can reach 7.84A, which is determined by the working mechanism of all energy transfer active balancer .

The TDTBMS active balancer module adopts an energy transfer active balancer method, which has the outstanding advantages of low energy consumption and less heat generation. Its working mechanism is that when there is a voltage difference between the batteries in the series, the active balancer module transfers the energy of the high voltage battery to the low voltage battery, thereby reducing the voltage of the high voltage battery and increasing the voltage of the low voltage battery, ultimately achieving voltage difference balancing.

This equalizer method does not have the risk of overcharging or discharging, and does not require an external power source. It has advantages in both safety and economy.

The TDTBMS active balancer/equalizer module is an independent module that operates independently and is wired separately. Regardless of whether the battery is old or new, whether the BMS is installed or working, the TDTBMS active balancer/equalizer module can be directly installed and used.

The newly launched 5A active balancer/equalizer module belongs to the hardware version. Although it does not have intelligent communication function, the balancer/equalizer on and off are operated independently, without debugging or monitoring, and can be installed and used immediately without any other cumbersome operations.

For ease of use, the socket of the balance module is designed to be foolproof. If the plug does not correspond to the correct socket, it cannot be inserted, thus avoiding damage to the balance module caused by incorrect wiring. In addition, the balancer/equalizer module is equipped with screw holes around it for easy installation; Gift high-quality dedicated ribbon cables, carrying 5A balanced current for safe operation.

How does Active Balancer work?

  1. Active Balancer uses advanced electronic control technology to monitor the charge and discharge status of battery cells and actively adjusts the current to transfer excess charge from the battery in the charged state to the battery in the discharged state to achieve charge balance.

What types of batteries does Active Balancer work with?

Active Balancer works with all types of batteries, including lithium-ion, lead-acid, and more. Its design allows it to accommodate different battery chemistries and specifications.

Is installing Active Balancer complicated?

  • Most Active Balancers are designed to be easy to install and integrate into existing battery management systems. Typically, the installation process is completed by professionals to ensure proper configuration and operation of the system.
